Types of Siding Available

When you have to update your home or office, one thing that you may choose to change is your siding in Sterling Heights. This is the material that goes on the outside of the building and can do more than just make it look nice. It has some functional uses, such as keeping the structure on the inside intact and protected. There are many different types available, each with different benefits and drawbacks. Here are some of the most common materials you may use.

Wood is one of the most traditional materials to use. It is not only beautiful but also natural. You have a few different options, such as whether you want to put it on as is or use stains or paint to change the color. There are also many different options for how the wood is put on, giving you a few different texturing and pattern options. The drawbacks, however, are that it requires regular maintenance and is more susceptible to various kinds of damage, such as termites or rotting.

Vinyl is another popular choice to use for siding since it is low maintenance, durable and cost-effective. It is a synthetic material that can be made to mimic other materials, giving you a lot of variety in your color and texture. However, it can degrade the environment after being used because it isn’t biodegradable and will therefore continue to fill up landfills instead of breaking down.

Another choice you may choose to look into is metal. The cost for this material depends greatly on the type of metal being used as well as the labor costs. It is long lasting and can stand up against more than some of the other options, and it isn’t a material that will fade over time. It is also fire resistant. However, it is often heavier and it could rust which means you may need to repaint it every few years.

Finally, you could try using brick. This material often has a higher cost, but there is very little required maintenance, meaning that the higher initial cost could make up for itself over time. It is longer lasting than some of the other options available, but it is also heavy so it could have that same disadvantage as metal does. Some people may prefer to use brick veneer instead.
