Building More Than Roofs: Honoring Service with the Evan J. Vaillancourt Scholarship Fund in Metro Detroit

At Four Seasons Kanga Roof, our mission has always been to prove there is a better way to serve our team, our clients, and our community throughout the Metro Detroit area. We’ve spent years partnering with incredible local organizations like Toys for Tots, the Macomb County Food Bank, and Relay for Life. But recently, our commitment to service took on a deeply personal meaning.

A couple of years ago, tragedy struck our own Kanga Roof family when the younger brother of one of our team members passed away while serving our country. Spc. Evan J. Vaillancourt (October 23, 2001 – November 12, 2022) made the ultimate sacrifice. In that moment, our team knew we had to leave a lasting impact and do something meaningful to honor his legacy.

That profound need to give back led to the creation of the Evan J. Vaillancourt Legacy Scholarship Fund.

Partnering with De La Salle Collegiate—an all-boys Catholic high school right here in Metro Detroit—this fund ensures that the children of military families have access to a world-class, well-rounded college prep education. As Br. Ken Kalinowski, a theology teacher at De La Salle, notes the school offers everything from robotics, engineering, and aerospace to art and athletics. Evan’s mother, Andrea Mason, beautifully described the fund as a way to give military children the opportunity to walk the same halls, learn the same principles, and experience the same strong brotherhood that shaped her son into the man he was.

My father, Bill Burkhardt Sr., founded Four Seasons Kanga Roof on a few core values, but the most important one is simply this: We Care. That care extends far beyond installing shingles.

However, that same philosophy of uncompromising care and quality applies directly to the work we do on your home. When you hire us, you are hiring a team that believes in strong foundations. We don’t cut corners in our community, and we certainly don’t cut corners on your roof. That is exactly why we proudly install premium systems from industry leaders like CertainTeed, GAF, Elevate, and Carlyle. It’s why we strictly adhere to the rigorous standards set by the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) and stay at the forefront of the industry as recognized by Roofing Contractor Magazine. We believe our Metro Detroit neighbors deserve top-tier craftsmanship backed by manufacturers and associations we trust implicitly.

Our dedication to doing things the right way is reflected in the feedback we receive every day. As one of our amazing Metro Detroit customers recently shared in a 5-star Google Review:

“I would not call any other company and I love the annual inspection service they offer. It gives us peace of mind that the same company that did our roof inspects it annually for a minor fee. It’s so hard to find good, trustworthy work and if you want quality, fair price and complete care– don’t call anyone other than Four Kanga Roof!”

Whether we are supporting the next generation of military children or protecting your family from the harsh Michigan winters, we are fully committed to serving you. We are asking our community to stand with us. Please consider making a donation directly to the Evan J. Vaillancourt Scholarship Fund. 100% of your donation goes directly to the fund to provide a Catholic college prep education for the children of our military heroes.
